Episode 370 – The Afghanistan Papers Are Establishment Whitewash BS

by | Dec 20, 2019 | Podcasts | 14 comments

The Afghanistan Papers! The Afghanistan Papers! Everyone is talking about the Afghanistan Papers! These “incredible” documents must be full of “explosive revelations” about the US-led NATO invasion and 18-year presence in Afghanistan, right? That’s what everyone is saying, after all. But what if I were to tell you that this “bombshell” report from The Washington Post isn’t just a Nothingburger, but is actually an establishment whitewash? You better brace yourself, because that’s exactly what I’m going to tell you on this week’s edition of The Corbett Report podcast.

  1. Well, I guess I’ve been watching Corbett Report too long, because I understood pretty much all of this as I’ve been watching and reading about the Afghan papers. Of course, I also remembered all the clips from his previous episodes, so that may explain it. Thanks for training me well James.

I think these are a tool that we can use against the establishment. As you call them, my “normy” friends are very resistant when I talk about how we’re being lied to – “Oh, you always think they’re lying to us.” Well yeah!! But with these, I asked one of them recently, if they lied like this, what aren’t they lying about? And a normy who thinks I am crazy for everything from the 60s assassinations to Assad gas attacks relented a little and admitted “you got a point.” It’s a small step, but I’ll take it. Take their tools they are trying to use to keep their narrative going and use it against them to wake people up to what is really going on.

    Just my two cents …

  2. I’m just around the 20 minute mark but wanted to comment.

@19:38 summed it up perfectly. If we were only more efficient at killing people, then our investment would have been worth it.

The WaPo was attempting at whitewash of the U.S. military adventures, but I think the actual image this WaPo piece unintentionally paints is of dehumanization. The war is made to look like an investment, and human lives be damned. The problem was we didn’t overthrow governments and genocide populations in the right way. This is such a psychopathic mindset that is being displayed once again. Maybe that is a good takeaway from this piece. It gives us another example of the mindset of the media-military-industrial complex.

  3. Excellent overview presentation of Afghanistan.
I appreciate how Corbett chides the poor journalism, but also showcases good journalism.

The last 5 minutes had an emotional impact.
    So true!
My eyes got a bit watery.

  4. Return on investment equals the money handed out between the conspirators and the annual bottom line from heroin sales. Those not in the money loop don’t matter and any cost there, like costs from shattered lives due to war or propaganda costs of reconstruction spin, can be picked up by the peasants.

  5. Well done my brother! This is a well polished gem of truth!

A proper education from start to finish!

  6. It is indeed deplorable to think that this war has been going on for this long and I almost have an “Alice in Wonderland” feeling when I hear politicians state that the war should not end for “national security” reasons. Americans in general still don’t question this narrative, or if they do they state vague generalities like “it’s all for the oil” or other nonsense without looking any further into the matter.

Thank you James for laying out all of the reasons why the MIC and the Deep State are still supporting U.S. and NATO occupation and this certainly gives insight into these issues.

I hope, someday, larger numbers of people begin to question the narrative instead of listening to the usual suspect’s propagandized psychobabble.

  7. MBP , this is for all the heroin dispensaries in Switzerland that distribute the poison for free. Savoy Blues on a Saturday night.

  8. MBP , Im surprised you didn’t mention the Winter Solstice. I read in the Buffet newspaper it will occur here at 10:49p.m.CST US.
Cheerful as a cold morgue and a new moon.

This story deserves an award, some sort of award. I got it , news award. ” The Morgue Award”.

  9. If the Washington Post is now publishing material demonstrating that US officials have been “following the same talking points for 18 years,” emphasizing how they are “making progress,” “especially” when the war is “going badly,” shouldn’t the paper acknowledge that it has been cheerleading this same line for all of those 18 years? Doesn’t it have a responsibility to examine how it served as a primary vehicle for those officials to spread these same “talking points” to spin the coverage in the desired fashion?

  10. This was so dense with information that I had to give it a second listen immediately after the first time.

  11. Its all lies and deception. If it comes from the lamestream media, it’s either a mistake or deliberate propagnada! Even network tv series are chock full of propagnada and virtue signaling. It’s all wrapped up now. Unless you totally stop paying attention to “mainstream” sources, you have to question each and everything you see. Especially if it comes from a co-opted source like Wapo or the NYT, much less from CNN or MSNBC.

Well done video James! As always, you hit the nail on the head. Too bad we can’t hit politicians on the head the same way!
