by | Jul 10, 2017 | Interviews | 29 comments

Lyn Ulbricht, mother of Ross Ulbricht, joins us today to discuss the arrest, conviction and unconscionable double life plus 40 year sentence of her son in the Silk Road case. We discuss the case against Ross and the exculpatory information that was withheld from the jury (and sometimes even the defence) during his trial. We also talk about the loss of his appeal in the 2nd District court and where the FreeRoss.org campaign goes from here.

  1. Delta lodge, it would be nice to view this story and let me gain wisdom to apply justice fairly. Why are you blocking this? I can’t view on youtube, its blocked. And that sucks.

    • Finally got to see this story. I must be in a sun flare area that keeps this device receiving error to download from youtube 401.geez.
      I recommend clean living like Robert David Steel says ” clean as Caesar’ s wife” kind a living. I suppose they would just make something up if they really feel you need to go away. Hear!hear! let it be known General Bottlewasher breaks no law, keeps good books , pays all taxes due and gives to the poor.Amen.And I am not a Platoist believer in suicide or any other kind of suicide. There! James ,sad, sad story with connections to my hometown and homestate.

  2. The courts are corrupt! Look at the court that gave Larry Silverstein 4.5 billion dollars….

  3. As this assumedly stupid kingpin book was mentioned, I wanted to mention the movie that was made about the story around Ross Ulbricht, deep web:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvC9oDlT8mM (trailer).
    I’ve just seen it. It seems to make a balanced point. At least Ross’ parents came to word numerous times. (I also thought you could make a glimpse at Derrick Broze (some interviews from James with him here) at one time but I could be wrong^^.)
    Anyways. I found the movie itself mentionable, as well as the involvement of Keanu Reeves (as a kind of narrator); also Elijah Wood is mentioned in the screen credits, though I have no clue which role he might have played.
    Remembering Reeves in Matrix and Wood speaking about pedophiles in hollywood…

    By the way, I like the way you can donate and leave a note to Ross at freeross.org

    • Mielia,
      Thanks for the link to the movie trailer.
      I will check it out.

  4. American holdings, I have a great dream of writing a fiction book someday. The plot goes something like this. 1 ton of refined heroin is transported to Tinker Air force base every 6 to 8 months in cargo planes from Afghanistan. Along with 200 men from local armories specializing in various civil restructuring and engineering companies. The heroin is distributed nation wide by the various command and control officers that rotate in and out of Afghanistan are both weekend and regular Army. Many are local weekenders who work as supervisors and vice presidents at regional food distribution companies like Tyson Foods , J.B.Hunt trucking, WalMart and the like. They have big appetites and greedy ambitions, like their mentors who got wealthy during Clinton’s administration .They have great control over subordinates in their civil jobs and all things military, career wise. The wartime bond in tight and the slightest disloyalty is meet with fatal consequences. The local politician is chairman of the intelligence committee. The junior house representative sets as vice chairman on several key committees and reports to the chairman and has proven his loyalty time and again. He even has regular press statements saying 10 to 12 people over dose in the state each week for the last 3 years. Something should be done. Appropriations are acquired to combat the Physicians who are to blame and Big Pharma law suits are green lighted at the state level. No one looks at Tinker. No one looks at distribution. No one cares. Just a fictional story don’t confuse it with reality.

    • That’s maddening. Although off-topic, other than corruption wins, almost always. This stuff can be only gotten, and heavily redacted, by a journalist like Jason Leopold, who doesn’t even bother doing a FOIA, but with enough money backing him and his FOIA lawyer friend to have a FOIA lawsuit, which gave us the EmailGate (the largest available Clinton emails, which she tried to obfuscate the release of by ridiculous means such as printing and then scanning them back and giving the scans, of about 100k emails. The momentum this gave Sanders over her, when she couldn’t blame anybody but herself, certainly not the mythical invincible “Russian Hackers”, like later on, because she felt like lying and using the kind of narrative put out by the NIE regarding Iran in 2007 and 2013 that it didn’t have a nuclear weapons program, yes, those 17 Intelligence Agencies put out that NIE, the National Intelligence Estimate, yearly, I think it’s yearly or if not, after some period of time I’m not certain of.

      But, you know what, for example, she said that the Coast Guard confirmed “Russian Hacking” (people have to be dumb as fu** not to understand the difference between someone leaking your email by accessing your own computer, and somebody remotely getting into your computer and giving the emails to wikileaks…anyways…that stuff still makes my blood boil, she should just have mentioned Trump’s Russian Oligarch connections, which is a true thing, whether you like him or not). Because the Coast Guard is one of those 17 Intelligence Agencies. Yeah, all 17. Not just 2 opportunists like the CIA and the DNI, which isn’t really an agency, it’s just a new post created by W. on top of all of them, just one guy, Clapper. Clapper said so..must be true, right?

    • Also, why is the 9/11 Commission Review, known as the “Meese Commission”…is actually wanting those documents out? Ed Meese? Remember when he was the intro of a Video episode of the Corbett Report?

      I would think the guy did this just to give those who care a glimpse of hope only to laugh as the doors are closed away, for a while longer anyway. 9/11 secrets will not stay as long and secret as JFK, they made much fewer mistakes with JFK, while it wasn’t long most of the ridiculous reporting of the events on 9/11 was being smashed from the same very day.

  5. Mr. Corbett,
    Thank you so much for this interview and for asking the questions which you did.
    From what I gather, Ross Ulbricht was a regular guy. A like-minded guy which I and many others would love to have as a friend.

    The whole ordeal is such a heart breaking story.

  6. Everyone who ever paid tax has supported the drug trade.

    If you didn’t give your money towards building the roads, how would the drug trade transport it’s goods?

    • I wouldn’t deny the first point about how the empire was built, but no.

      I’m saying that just because someone creates a platform that has a general purpose use, does not mean that they support any specific use of that platform, or be able to control it even if they wished to do so.

      In the case of the empire I have seen plenty of evidence that it actively promotes drugs and even forces drugs onto people against their will or without their knowledge.

      I have not seen the same with silk road.

      • Well yes, it does no look so good from a PR point of view.

        It would be interesting to know what Ross’s take is on the snippets that have been released as allegedly being from his diary.

        They seem to be written in a very retrospective sense. I know people do normally write their diary entries after events have taken place, but they seem to be written more like part of an autobiography. Weird.

      • Re: psychedelic psilocybe mushrooms : Even in the US, you’d need to have a whole house growing them to get something like 10 years, it’s actually viewed less seriously than cannabis, in the backwater states that don’t even have medical cannabis yet.

        In Canada, you could get caught with 50 garbage bags of mushrooms and be out with no time and just parole….heh.

      • Son of a gun. (A popular Joey Bishop expression back in the day)

        • It’s the perfect expression of an anarchist society.

          “What you mean, borders are closed? Why, I have a cannon to sell ya.”

          One has to wonder how are such vehicles regarded by “authorities” on the other side of the fence.

  7. Your story of murder reminded me of something that happened to an acquaintance of mine once. He was arrested in Volusia County, Florida because Georgia had a clerical error and had not lifted a warrant on him. He had just had a bypass operation a few months before and his doctor told him he needed certain medication and should avoid others. While in jail (a private one owned by the county and is also the only county which does not have their medical examiner employed by the state, but by the county. This should raise some alarms, especially when you look into this craziness even further.) the doctor (who was ordered to be fired the previous year by the state) tried to give him some medication his doctor had said he couldn’t have. This guy, a very nervous type person, tried to explain to him he couldn’t have that medication, but a guard just walked in and began beating him to a pulp. That night, the guards would walk by him (untreated) and laugh at him. The next morning they lead him back to the scene of the crime where they asked him if he wanted treatment. He declined. While the video may be seen on a site called VolusiaExposed.com (run by a former guard who is furious at the goings on at this place), I wish I still had my copies of the statements. They did not match the video in any aspect.
    I was going to set up a website for him in which we could truly attack the county, but he decided to trust the local television news, which had suddenly become concerned about poor people being abused by the blackboot cowards. They gave a predictably piss-poor coverage of it, and no follow-up. I am also including another link, which is even more disturbing; it is the link to a site for correction officers. While you won’t be able to comment on it, it is the same kind of ugly stupid barbarity one can find on a bluelivesmatter(not much) site when someone shoots a cop. I think this clearly shows how any justice system serves to create injustice. Enjoy. Or rather, don’t; but you should watch anyway.

    http://www.correctionsone.com/corrections/articles/6339936-Video-Inmate-sues-for-being-struck-in-face-during-detainment/

    P.S. Volusia exposed is an excellent site, by the way. There are many (far too many) stories exposed on this private jail. County owns it. I could go on and on and on, but no need. Thanks AmericanHoldings for reminding me. Jim from the lunatic asylum known as florida.

    • Indeed.

      I’m from up north, and the crazy stories in the media so often start with “A Florida man…” it’s become a running joke.

  8. While the drug war is absolutely immoral, I think it might be more “winnable” if somehow a case could be made to the American public how much of their tax dollars are spent per person incarcerated. People might be more likely to care if they see how it hits their bottom line.

    • More and more people know their taxes almost only go towards negative things. Millitary, which could have no new money coming in from the public for the next 20 years and survive, handsomely. Prisons, prisoners, corrupt law enforcement (to hell with #notallcops), building the electronic panopticon.

      One can almost wish for a solar EMP, to stop this madness for a decade, slow things down, pause civilization for a while, and while electricity would be worked on for the next 10 years, the public would know their priorities a lot more. People renounced by their family as persona non grata would end up to be pardoned by their families even, as everyone would stick together to keep warm and barter and grow food…when we actually see the sky nowadays (it’s always goddamn cloudy here..more than it used to be, of course that’s due to the AFB in town and the NATO jet fuel JT-8/JB-8, I forgot the second letter..they’re messing up with the skies and even admitted it, and as soon as they admitted it 3 years ago, we get about 20-25 days of clear skies and during winter, almost never. Wasn’t that way before 2014 I know for sure. I’m somebody who likes to hike. See Jim Lee’s research at climateviewer.com

  9. This mom and woman is STRONG. I’ve heard her in another interview admit to having a heart attack and her heart and cardiovascular system are in 100% shape, but she had a heart attack after the ridiculous sentencing Ross’ had. I didn’t know this could happen, to be literally heartbroken. It shows she is, that’s why I think she is incredibly strong, if my kid, who’s flowing through grade 1 to 9 so far with an 92% average and does a lot of little physics and chemistry experiments by himself, would end up in prison for anything non-violent after later in life growing to be a person with an exceptional mind, which apparently is what would have led him to prison. It says a lot about the mindset of the USA, although they aren’t lucky with that 2nd courts of appeal..that case being transmuted to NY because of Chuck Schumer, the most fake of all fake Democrats and what they are supposed to stand for…he must not be happy that bitcoin is 10k USD per unit right now. Hah, I had 0.45 in my wallet and right now I’m thinking of making my life less dull, and cash some of it, because I think it’s inevitably going to go back down, it always pretty much follows a sine wave when it comes to value.

    Anyway, stay strong Lyn, I wouldn’t be able to endure what you endure and fight for, I would likely have died in the following year or so. Fight!

  10. It’s Democrats. The Ulbricht’s are not New Yorkers, yet the case was brought all the up to NY because of Chuck Schumer pulling some strings.

    In California he would never have gotten that sentence, and over there they got the most human of all courts of appeal, the 9th circuit courts of appeal, and they would likely have reduced anything he had been accused of, maybe even tossed out.

    The whole thing about the case being in NY was the first thing that made me be very suspicious of the whole thing from the start.

  11. If you compare to say, one of the largest type of agora as Silk Road was that got busted last year, AlphaBay, the person arrested as the main guy didn’t receive something as bad as Ross. They’ve taken out Silk Road 2 too, but that one, you would have needed to be quite an idiot to use, even if it stayed around for a couple years. AlphaBay stayed for about 4 years, I’m not sure of what happened over there, but they had incredible security. So that NSA guy showing up in th e story as Lyn tells it, no surprise, only the NSA can break the kind of security AlphaBay used, or maybe GCHQ etc., as they often just let other countries do their spying and cracking for them.

    EXCLUSIVE: Mum of drugs ‘kingpin’ of Silk Road pleads to Trump for clemency
    https://finance.yahoo.com/news/exclusive-mum-drugs-kingpin-silk-road-pleads-trump-clemency-060042658.html

    EXCERPT
    “I’m very hopeful because President Trump wants to pardon people,” Lyn Ulbricht, 64, from Austin, Texas, said. “It was a frankly reckless idea but [Ross] did it because he was on fire for freedom as a young guy in his mid-20s who believed in privacy and free markets. Ross never intended harm.”

    She believes her son’s sentence is unjustly harsh and sees him as a victim of the war on drugs. In an hour-long telephone interview, Yahoo Finance UK heard:

    How Lyn Ulbricht almost died of “broken heart syndrome” when her son was sentenced;
    Why she believes the notorious “fake hit” linked to Silk Road was a set up;
    How Ross is coping in the ‘Alcatraz of the Rockies’;
    The personal toll the entire case has taken on the family;
    How Lyn is fighting to have her son’s sentence reduced.

    “I can’t let him rot in prison like this,” she said. “I don’t see how I can just go, ‘Hey Ross, sorry bye, I’m going to go off and pursue my bliss’ or whatever, get a hobby. I can’t imagine just leaving him there.”
