But will the would-be tyrants of Europe play by the rules?

Ireland may only have a population of 4 million, but their relatively small voice was heard round the world as they rejected the Lisbon Treaty last week, dealing a severe blow to the European empire. Fearing a repeat of the EU constitution debacle—where the French and Dutch voters trounced the federal superstate by voting against the constitution—this time around only the citizens of Ireland were given the chance to vote on the Lisbon Treaty (which is just the EU constitution by another name). As such, Ireland was the only hope for the defeat of this disastrous treaty, and the people of Ireland must be commended for having made the right choice in last week's referendum.

Stopping the European Union dead in its tracks on its way to becoming a one-state dictatorship is indeed cause for celebration. The empire has been dealt a harsh blow. By the European Union's own laws, the treaty has to be ratified by every European country in order to become law. Having been refused by Ireland, the treaty should now legally be dead on arrival. But don't expect those who wish to see the end of national sovereignty in Europe to play by the rules.

Indeed, it seems that the EU cheerleaders were ready for such an outcome and are already trying to circumvent this unequivocal rejection. Reports indicate that immediately after rejection of the treaty became apparent, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown phoned French President Nicholas Sarkozy to assure him that the British would proceed with treaty ratification despite the result. Other governments have vowed to do the same. Also, the EU spinmasters kicked into action as soon as the result was finalized. A recent report from the Irish Independent reveals that the European Commission began a survey as soon as the results became apparent, dissecting the "No" vote to find reasons for the failure. Predictably, the press have already lapped up the survey results to create spin about an uninformed public stupidly going against their own interests in voting to protect their national sovereignty.

As it turns out, rather than celebration and complacency, what is needed now is a redoubling of efforts from those valiant groups like We Are Change Ireland that helped bring about this victory. The EU spinmasters must not be allowed to sneak this treaty in the back door by bribing the Irish government with 'special considerations' in return for ratification. Nor can the public be allowed to believe that the "No" vote was the result of ignorance.

Now is the time to get the word out about this disastrous treaty so that it cannot be revived in the future by the dictators who seek to impose a superstate on the free nations of Europe. This can be done by continuing to get the word out about informative documentaries like End of Nations and well-researched articles about what the treaty really does.

The Irish freedom campaigners won the referendum by informing the public about the deception, and only by continuing to inform the public can the European dictators be kept at bay.
