A new Zogby poll released yesterday shows a majority of Americans seek new investigations into the events of September 11, 2001, with 51% supporting the idea that Congress should investigate Bush and Cheney in relation to 9/11. This is not the first Zogby poll to show that Americans doubt the official 9/11 story, with a 2004 poll having demonstrated that half of New Yorkers believed the government had known about the attacks beforehand and "consciously failed to act."

The timing of this news is important, coming just days before the worldwide protests planned to mark the 6th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. As the latest episode of The Corbett Report details, the events are being billed as a Global Day of Action with street action being organized in the US, Canada, Europe and even South America. The day of marches and protests is being organized in conjunction with 9/11/07 General Strike, a viral internet campaign with no central organization urging citizens to boycott work, school and shopping next Tuesday. The 9/11 Strike homepage lists numerous reasons for people to support the effort, including the fact that the 9/11 attacks have been used as a reason to support torture, surveillance and the death of habeas corpus.

A New York based citizens activist group, We Are Change is organizing 5 days of events starting today with street actions in New York City and culminating in a World Trade Center memorial vigil on September 11. Featured events in the 5 day lineup include the world premiere of the films Loose Change Final Cut and Endgame. Other events will include speeches by Alex Jones, Jack Blood, Dylan Avery, Richard Gage and others, with proceeds to go to 9/11 first responders.

Various groups are hoping to use the momentum behind this movement to continue pressure on the Bush administration beyond September 11.

There has been little doubt that the American public did not believe the Bush administration was telling the truth about the 9/11 attacks; yesterday's Zogby poll vindicates that view. There has been little doubt that the citizens of the world are sick of how those attacks have been used to justify illegal invasions and occupations, torture, brutality and an encroaching police state; next week's street actions will demonstrate this. It only remains to be seen if the controlled corporate media will bother to take notice.
